Malaysia: Serious concerns about the health of political prisoner Khalid Ismath
PSM Statement - 23 October 2015 - Serious concern about well-being of Khalid Ismath!
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) would like to express our deepest concern and alarm on the well being of Khalid Ismath. We have made to understand yesterday that Khalid has been put under solitary confinement since he was denied bail on the 13 of October 2015. Putting a person in solitary confinement is a form of torture and we call upon the Prison authorities at Ayer Molek Johor to place Khalid in a normal cell.
PSM is also deeply concerned that the Johor High Court has yet to grant a date to do a judicial revision on his denial of bail. A revision has been filed on Sunday 18-10-2015 and we are concerned that there seems to be a delay in granting his lawyer a date in court to revise the unpopular Session Court decision in denying Khalid bail.
Finally PSM calls upon SUHAKAM to immediately visit Khalid Ismath and assess his condition there. Khalid Ismath has already being declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International and we call upon SUHAKAM to intervene and protest his continuous detention without being offered bail.
Khalid should be given the rights of bail like any other person and there should not be any interference by any parties in ensuring that Khalid’s rights a safeguarded. His continuous detention without bail is a gross human rights violation.
